In Ukraine, a senior military officer has confirmed reports of massive problems on the front line in the western Donetsk region. A major general spoke in an interview about a ‘collapsed’ front.
“We all know that I am not revealing any military secret when I say that our front has collapsed,” Major General Dmytro Marchenko said in a video interview with ex-parliamentary representative Boryslav Beresa published on Monday evening.
The Russian troops had already entered the city of Selydove and, according to his prediction, would soon conquer it. On Tuesday afternoon, the Russian Ministry of Defense declared that the city had been captured.
Reasons for Russia’s rise
Marchenko gave several reasons for the Russian advance. “Firstly, there is a lack of ammunition and weapons, secondly, there is a lack of people, there are no people, no replacements, the soldiers are tired, they cannot cover the front line where they are,” lamented the major general . Moreover, the command leadership is not optimal. At the beginning of the war, Marchenko became known for successfully defending the southern Ukrainian regions of Mykolaiv and Kherson.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion since February 2022. Russian troops have been advancing in eastern Ukraine for just over a year. Most recently they captured several smaller towns such as Krasnohorivka, Ukrainsk, Vuhledar and Hirnyk in the Donetsk mining area.
