The gender pay gap in Burgenland is the second lowest in Austria. But that is not enough for Deputy State Governor and Women’s State Councilor Astrid Eisenkopf. She wants to completely close the so-called ‘gender pay gap’.
As of yesterday, working women in Burgenland are statistically working for free until the end of the year, as they still earn 15.6 percent less than equally qualified male colleagues. This fact arises, among other things, from the fact that women often work in lower-paid sectors such as trade and care, are often out of the labor market for years due to waiting times and unpaid care work and therefore have a worse hand in salary negotiations.
“Equal Pay Day”, an international day of action, draws attention to this pay gap. To combat monetary inequality, the state relies on various subsidies, which, in the opinion of Deputy Governor and Women’s State Councilor Astrid Eisenkopf, are already having an effect:
To further close the pay gap, the government wants to encourage girls and women to pursue careers in better-paying sectors and promote women’s start-up projects and paternity leave. The measures are recorded in the Women’s Report 2024, which will be presented this year.
