Increase by 1000% – Trump victory: orders for the morning-after pill skyrocket

Date:

Since Republican Donald Trump’s election victory in the US, online providers have registered strong demand for the morning-after pill.

“We are not surprised that women are once again taking their health care into their own hands by hoarding these medications,” Wisp CEO Monica Cepak told CBS.

Orders for Winx Health’s emergency contraceptive pill “Restart” increased by 966 percent within the first 60 hours of Trump’s election victory compared to the previous week, American broadcasters CNN and CBS unanimously reported. According to CNN, this often involves multiple orders.

CBS and The Hill newspaper reported that sales of Wisp’s “morning after pill” have increased by 1,000 percent since Donald Trump’s election victory. 92 percent of orders are multipacks, “The Hill” wrote. Wisp CEO Monica Cepak told CBS that they experienced a similar situation after the Supreme Court overturned abortion rights in the United States.

IUDs and vasectomies are trending
The family planning organization ‘Planned Parenthood’ also registered significantly more questions on November 6, the day after the election victory, the ‘Washington Post’ and CBS unanimously reported. Requests for IUD insertion appointments have increased by 760 percent and vasectomy requests have increased by 1,200 percent. A representative from the organization told CBS about the possible reasons for this: “Americans may be rightly fearful and concerned about the prospect of further restrictions on our freedom to control our bodies.”

No more right to abortion
Nearly two years ago, the Supreme Court overturned the right to abortion in the US, which had been in place for almost fifty years. This decision was considered a political earthquake. Through several replacements during his first presidency, Trump shifted the court’s majority significantly to the right, making this decision possible. Now the states can decide on the right to abortion; in many of them abortions are now largely banned. Abortion advocates fear that existing laws will be further tightened once Trump returns to the White House.
