Two Italian entrepreneurs are suspected of collaborating with Russian secret services in Milan. They allegedly provided sensitive data, secret documents, photos of military facilities and electronic security information in exchange for cryptocurrencies.
The suspects are two Lombard entrepreneurs aged 34 and 60 who are said to have had contacts with Russian secret services. These are said to have originated from the deep web and then continued via Telegram.
Entrepreneurs are on Russia’s side
The entrepreneurs acted not only for financial reasons, but also for ideological reasons, because they were on the side of Russia in the conflict in Ukraine and were against “Western policies.”
The investigation follows the results of a complex investigation conducted in Milan in collaboration with the Cryptocurrency Division of the Carabinieri Anti-Counterfeiting Squad in Rome. The Italian counterintelligence service AISE was also involved in the investigation.
Dashcams were supposed to spy on cities
The two entrepreneurs are said to have proposed, among other things, a ‘business plan’ to the Milanese taxi cooperatives, which provided for the free installation of ‘dashcams’, small video cameras for security purposes. And this with the prospect of providing the Russian secret service with images of entire city areas without the knowledge of the taxi drivers. For investigators, this is the most concrete evidence of extensive “spying” activities.
