Tyrolean Neos boss: – “The minimum security is a social hammock”

Date:

The asylum law of the state of Tyrol continues to cause discussion. After the criticism from FPÖ state party chairman Markus Abwerzger, Tyrolean Neos chairman NR Dominik Oberhofer also followed up and expressed strong criticism.

“Unfortunately, the state government is not able to correctly copy the laws for Tyrol, which were drawn up under the black-green (!) coalition in Vorarlberg. This applies to both the Asylum Act and minimum security. My request to use the Vorarlberg model for Tyrol was rejected by all other parties in the state parliament, citing how antisocial and neoliberal we Neos are,” Oberhofer emphasizes.

Oberhofer reminds us that the minimum income was originally introduced to support minimum pensioners and single parents.

“What happened to that? Unfortunately, it became a social hammock for asylum seekers and work-shy young people. In terms of generosity, Tyrol clearly surpasses even Vienna. “I support the asylum law,” says Oberhofer.

“Abuse must be reduced”
Abwerzger’s demand that anyone staying illegally in the country receive no support is also more than understandable given our constitutional state. “But we need to reform the minimum income in Tyrol to finally put an end to abuse and ensure that those who really need it receive benefits. I think especially of children. They benefit much more from benefits in kind, such as free healthy lunches and all-day care, than from payments to parents, where the money is often transferred abroad and does not reach the children,” Oberhofer concludes.
