Candy coalition – political unrest surrounding former ORF boss Wrabetz

Date:

Negotiations on a possible three-party coalition are gaining momentum. In the media sector, ex-ORF general Alexander Wrabetz appears on an SPÖ ticket. He must position himself aggressively for the ministerial post. This not only creates enthusiasm in his party.

The coalition negotiations between the ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos are currently experiencing a setback in Styria, but have already started a long time ago. There is an explosive constellation in the media. Ex-ORF boss Alexander Wrabetz draws attention here. The SPÖ negotiator is increasingly seen as a future minister. After all, this concerns, among other things, the ORF budget levy and media financing.

The other parties also sent their representatives into the race: The Pinks, for example ex-Kurier editor Helmut Brandstätter and publicist Niko Alm, the Turquoise Media Minister Susanne Raab – the SPÖ, in addition to Wrabetz also Heinz Lederer. head of the SPÖ friends group in the ORF – Supervisory Board. He is also said to have ministerial ambitions.

The mayor of Vienna as an important supporter
Wrabetz is especially pressured by the mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig. The once powerful media manager plays a central role in the negotiations. SP boss Andi Babler is said to have reservations. His point of criticism: Wrabetz only stands for TV agendas.

ÖVP no longer wants to burn his fingers
The ÖVP does not continue with the media. They say there is nothing to gain here and they no longer want to burn their fingers on this issue – see the debates over ORF funding. We like to let Neos and SPÖ lead the way. Wrabetz himself spoke quite defensively about ‘transfer rumours’ last Saturday at the general meeting of the Rapid Vienna football club, of which he is chairman.
He was asked to negotiate. About the switch to the ministry, which in addition to media probably also includes art and culture, Wrabetz says: “I have not spoken to anyone about this yet and have not been approached.”
