Green Minister Alma Zadić is expecting her second child soon. “From birth, I will be represented for a number of weeks to ensure that the new family member is well received,” she wrote on social media on Thursday. It is also clear who will represent her during her maternity leave.
Minister of Social Affairs and Health Johannes Rauch represents Zadić at the Ministry of Justice. “Dear Johannes, I wish you good luck and all the best in this exciting task,” Zadić said on X.
The Minister of Justice said he is pleased that Rauch is taking over the representation.
Rauch about colleague: “Guarantee for independent judiciary!”
In return, the person addressed wished ‘a good start and a nice introduction’. He thanked Zadić for his trust and scattered roses: “As a minister you guarantee an independent judiciary!” Attached was a photo of them wearing baby clothes together. It read: “Legally Verified: Mom is the Best!”
There is no parental leave scheme for female politicians
During her first pregnancy break in early 2021, Zadić was represented by Green Party leader Werner Kogler. She returned to the office after almost two months. There is no real maternity and parental leave scheme for female politicians. The provisions of the Maternity Protection Act do not apply to members of the government, representatives or even mayors, nor do they have the right to leave because a political mandate is not an employee or service relationship.
