In Syria, the former head of the rebel government in the rebel stronghold of Idlib, Mohammed al-Bashir, says he will head a transitional government.
Bashir said in a TV speech on Tuesday that he has been appointed interim head of government and must lead this interim government until March 1, 2025.
The politician reportedly studied electronics engineering and Islamic law. He is in his early forties.
Rebels must withdraw from cities
Meanwhile, the Syrian rebel leadership has recommended that its fighters withdraw from the cities, according to insiders.
In return, police units and internal security forces linked to the leading rebel group, Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, were ordered to be stationed, according to two people close to the rebels.
