Arrest warrant, accusations – Glawischnig: “Will Benko become the godfather of the Austrian mafia?”

Date:

In the current political duel on krone.tv, a heated discussion arose between Andreas Mölzer and Eva Glawischnig about the current topics of the day: Is the future three-party coalition actually almost complete? How should we deal with Syrian refugees in Austria after the fall of the Assad regime? And what happens next with the arrest warrant against Rene Benko?

At the beginning, the progress of negotiations on a possible three-party coalition, consisting of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS, was discussed. When asked whether the agreements that have been announced so far essentially take the population out of the woods, Eva Glawischnig responded dryly: “No, there is still a lot missing. Of course, people now talk about anything that doesn’t cost money. This was supposed to be the fateful week. But the budget data is not ready yet. And that is still the big stumbling block.”

Andreas Mölzer is also distant: “Well, I mainly hear standing sentences. Declarations of intent that I have been hearing for years. And not much more. And of course it’s about money. There is no consensus on whether savings will be made on the expenditure side or on the revenue side. Of course the SPÖ wants people to keep spending a lot of money. The ÖVP does not want new taxes. And the NEOS are just a ‘sidecar’. So I think we are still a long way from reaching an agreement.”

Will the Lobau Tunnel come?
The Lobau tunnel will probably be built during the coming legislature. Glawischnig: “That is a very delicate decision. It is of course the budget that has the say. Because the Lobau tunnel costs a fortune. I don’t know, five, six billion euros. An incredible flow of money. And ASFINAG must decide whether to carry out other road projects or this Lobau tunnel, which costs as much as the renovation of Austria.”

Mölzer laconically: “But better Lobau Tunnel than Sky Shield. And we are at about a similar amount.”

Karli loves being chancellor
From Glawischnig’s point of view, there will still have to be basic services for asylum seekers: “They will have to provide benefits in kind. That means a roof over your head. Something to eat. And in that sense certainty.” She adds restrictively: “But of course no more money supply.”

Mölzer was very critical: “This should be a spirit of optimism? Where is the story to be told about the topics planned so far? So the real story is: Please, Karli loves being chancellor. This is the G layer. And the others would also like to have a share of the government pot. And that’s not enough. And Karli doesn’t like Herbert. Please, this is all so ridiculous.”

Glawischnig: “The population needs a story of hope. It doesn’t exist yet. The arguments over small things are quite depressing and no realignment after a departure.”

Public prosecutor against Benko
In addition to the future of the Syrian refugees in Austria, the match also discussed the investigation and arrest warrant of the Italian public prosecutor in Trent against Rene Benko in connection with possible corruption, fraud and the possible formation of a criminal organization. of innocence. Nevertheless, the Public Prosecution Service’s investigations have caused a lot of controversy.

Mölzer: “The question that now arises and which we have not actually thought about is the mafia nature of all this. Was it really just Mr. Benko who fooled and excluded everyone else, or was he a stooge for investors who also used him? They now brush themselves off and say we lost so much money.”

Glawischnig explains: “Yes, the mafia sponsors did not act alone. They also had a whole mafia network. So if I look at it this way: I don’t know whether Benko has become the godfather of the Austrian mafia.’

In any case, Benko must be available for questioning; an interview may have already taken place in Innsbruck.

Glawischnig: “Thirteen people have been sentenced to pre-trial detention in Italy. Including mayors. The connections with politics are also clear.” So I repeat that: “Will Benko become the godfather of the Austrian mafia? What more can you say about it, given all the background?”

You can watch the entire match in the video above.
