During a train journey, the memory of the deceased grandfather was forgotten in the compartment. The 66-year-old, hand-drawn Advent calendar should have been passed on to a grandchild (2). Now the family is looking for the heirloom.
It was on December 1, 1958 when Johannes Dauth and his two older brothers received a homemade Advent calendar from their father (35). The architect had sketched a holiday home for the three boys and drawn a scene from family life in each window of the building, which he lovingly colored by hand.
“We had a lot of fun – it was incredibly exciting for us to see what awaited us when we opened the next day,” says the 68-year-old. After her father’s death, the Advent calendar was also a reminder of him. “It has been passed on in the family to children and grandchildren.”
Forgotten an heirloom on the train
On November 30, Dauth’s son Benjamin (37) wanted to take the calendar to Franconia to his grandson Xaver (2). He transported the carefully packaged heirloom on the regional train “R5064”, which runs from Linz to Freilassing. “Benjamin was sitting in the rear compartment of the train on the right side and had placed the package in the luggage compartment.”
When he got off in Vöcklabruck to change trains, he suddenly realized that he had forgotten the calendar in the compartment. “He immediately called the ÖBB, where he was referred to the ‘Lost & Found’ service to report the damage.”

But the forgotten package measuring 75 by 60 centimeters never showed up. “A train conductor then searched the compartment, but found nothing.”
Dauth now hopes that ‘Krone’ readers can help find the 66-year-old Advent calendar. “For us it would be extremely important for emotional reasons, while for others it would be worthless.”
