The Spanish government and its left-wing partners agree to extend the energy tax in the absence of PNV and Junts

Date:

The just over an hour-long meeting, held by the Ministry of Finance and left-wing parliamentary partners, ended with an agreement that the tax will be extended for another year through a royal decree.

The meeting held on Wednesday by the Ministry of Finance and its left-wing parliamentary partners, in absence of PNV and Juntsended with the agreement that the tax on large energy companies One more year, until 2025, via a royal decree, sources at the meeting indicated.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State for Finance, Jesús Gascón; the leader of CanIone Belarra; the deputies of Add Manuel Lago and Txema Guijarro; the parliamentarian of C.K.D Pilar Vallugera and the representative of EH Bildu Oscar Matute.

The meeting, which was held at the offices of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, lasted just over an hour.

It is the agreement of the meeting that Podemos demanded from the Spanish government support for tax reforms and to which neither the PNV nor the Junts have been present, so at the moment the votes to ratify this future decree-law are not guaranteed.

The original idea of the purple was to draw up a draft law, but in the end it was decided to opt for a decree that would extend the rate with the current draft of non-tax real estate benefit, to which the Spanish government had committed itself ERC, EH Bildu and BNG.

Obviously, the route of the decree law does not allow taxes to be approved, which was the case ‘sine qua non’ condition of the PNV to accept it, as the current figure prevents the provincial treasuries of Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Navarra from managing the proceeds.

While sources present at the meeting have highlighted the good atmosphere of the meeting, they now have to join the PNV and Junts pact to balance the numbers. These formations are expected to be convened next week, coinciding with the arrival at the Senate plenary session of Congress with the amendments to the Global Minimum Tax Law, which introduces part of the executive-sponsored tax reform.

Moreover, the PP has decided the Senate the multinational tax law that included part of the Spanish government’s tax reform, relinquishing a veto that would return the text to Congress. What it has done with its absolute majority is add new tax cuts and aid to young people already affected by DANA, thereby enticing the Junts and the PNV so that they are ratified in Congress next week and become a reality in the Government Gazette.
