The parliamentary spokesperson of EH Bildu, Otxandiano hairhas stated that, despite the “ultimatums” of the Basque government, his group does not consider the budget negotiations as broken, as there are still “possibilities” for an agreement with the PNV until December 20, the date of the final vote on the bills and the PSE-EE. On the contrary, Jeltzales and socialists have emphasized that “it is not possible” to reach an agreement because the coalition has “finished” negotiations.
This exchange of reproaches between EH Bildu and the parties that make up the executive power took place in the Finance Committee of the Basque Parliament, during the debate on the partial changes to the regional government’s budget project for 2025. Otxandiano has assured that his group has “sought and made efforts” to reach an agreement with the government. However, he has faulted the executive for saying that the purpose of this process has not been to agree on improvements to the project, but rather to merely establish opposition “adherence” to its policies. The spokesman for the sovereigntist coalition regretted that the government had sent him last Wednesday “at 7:30 p.m.” a final settlement agreement, which his group reached after announcing it to some. media.
Moreover, he criticized the fact that the said proposal was accompanied by “a ultimatum“, by demanding that EH Bildu respond to it before 7:30 am on Thursday morning, indicating whether he accepts it or not, as otherwise the government would understand that “there is no agreement.”
EH Bildu’s spokesperson has criticized this latest offer practically the same compared to the previous one, which included only five million euros more in terms of obligations that the executive was willing to take on.
He explained that the government proposal provided for the acceptance of proposals from EH Bildu for an amount of 30 million euros by 2025, to which were added commitments for other matters. 100 million for the entire parliamentary termsomething representing “half” of the amount the government accepted in its agreement with the coalition for the 2022 budgets.
