The negotiations on the candy coalition are entering the hot phase. As reported, a preliminary decision could be made on Friday. Until the coalition is forged in the new year, further decisions must also be made within the parties. According to the pink statute, the NEOS must even question all their approximately 3,000 members.
As is known, the negotiators of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS want to get rid of the last large chunks of content between Christmas and New Year. The candy coalition could then be fully negotiated and decided early in the new year. This would require overcoming internal obstacles within the three parties. In the case of the SPÖ, the program would have to be approved by the party leadership.
Pinke should interview members
The NEOS would probably have to overcome the biggest hurdle here and, if joining the coalition, even convene a general assembly. According to the Pink Party’s statutes, the General Assembly is also responsible for “making decisions on agreements (in particular regarding cooperation, electoral alliances and coalitions) with other political parties, associations or groups at the federal level” (see facsimile below). According to the articles of association, these questions require a majority of two-thirds of the valid votes cast.
According to the party, NEOS currently has about 3,000 members. If everyone voted, the pink leadership would need about 2,000 yes votes at the meeting. “This is also why the pink lighthouse projects should shine particularly brightly,” reveals a party insider.
From an organizational point of view, the effort required for the survey would be limited; this could also be held online.
