If the climate bonus falls: “CO2 tax will be reduced or deducted”

Date:

Political advisor Christoph Pöchinger, who has excellent contacts with the Freedom Party and is considered “close to the FPÖ”, analyzes the current budget saving plans of the FPÖ and ÖVP in the krone.tv interview.

According to him, the climate bonus will decrease. But there is an innovation in CO2 pricing that once justified this climate bonus: “Either the CO2 tax is significantly reduced or completely deducted. I trust that both parties will do that.”

The government will have to cut more than six billion euros from the budget this year. And, as Herbert Kickl and Christian Stocker announced on Monday, without tax increases. To this end, a number of subsidies are being cut. Many also feared that the climate ticket would be included. But as the “Krone” has learned, in the future it will be called the “Austria Ticket” and will cost a little more.

Pöchinger also reassures: “The current climate ticket is based on an idea by Norbert Hofer when he was Minister of Transport. At the time it was called the ‘Austria Ticket’. Minister Gewessler then negotiated it with the federal states and the transport companies. You have to give that to her. But the idea comes from Norbert Hofer. But I believe that such a network ticket will continue to exist. Only under a new name and with adjustments. So there will be better conditions and things will generally be more constructive.”

In general, in Austria, a future FPÖ-ÖVP government would see a number of subsidies reduced. This is also the case with club structures.

Only retire from age 67?
And a change is also expected in the field of pensions: “There will be no changes to the existing pensions. But new solutions must be found for future pensions. For example, the age at which we are eligible for pension. This will be a one-time step and will take one to two years.”

From Pöchinger’s point of view, otherwise far too large a share of the state budget would be needed for pensions in the future, which would also make this increase in the starting age necessary.
