The agreement between the municipal government and the sovereigntist coalition includes 23 amendments aimed at housing and social promotion. The mayor and EH Bildu emphasize that the pact benefits all Gasteiztarras.
The budget agreement reached between the municipal government of Vitoria and EH Bildu includes items worth 7.7 million euros 23 amendments agreed with the Abertzale coalition and aimed at “improving the lives of the people of Gasteiztarras.”
The pact was announced in separate press appearances by EH Bildu’s spokesperson, Rocío Vitero, on the one hand, and by the city’s mayor, Maider Etxebarria, and by the first deputy mayor, Beatriz Artolazabal, on the other.
Vitero explained that it includes “important measures and projects” in areas such as social promotion and housing and emphasized that “the one who wins” is the city of Vitoria.
For her part, the mayor has described the agreement as important and acknowledged that it has improved the agreement municipal project, endowed with 475.6 millionthanks to the contributions of EH Bildu, while Artolazabal has also welcomed the pact and assured that it has been possible thanks to the fact that the Abertzale coalition ‘shares’ the urban project of the municipal government.
All three have rejected that EH Bildu, the party with which this year’s budgets and budgetary regulations for 2024 have already been agreed, is the “preferred partner” of the PSE-EE/PNV executive.
In this sense, Etxebarria and Artolazabal have regretted that this year it has not been possible to agree on the bills with PP and Elkarrekin, but they have made it clear that they are open to continuing talks with the entire opposition to to agree on various issues throughout the period. legislature.
The PP’s municipal spokesperson, Iñaki García, regrets that once again the socialist mayor, Maider Etxebarria, is thrown “into Bildu’s arms”. and choosing the sovereigntist formation as the preferred partner because “it is the one with whom one feels most comfortable agreeing on all left-wing policies.”
According to him, this pact means that Vitoria will “remain stagnant, looking back and losing opportunities” due to a tax increase with “worse” public services, worse cleaning and safety and declining trade.
From Elkarrekin, her spokesperson, Garbiñe Ruiz, indicated that the mayor missed the opportunity to confronted with the problems that the city brings with it such as the shortage of affordable rental housing.
He recalled that Elkarrekin proposed introducing a fee for vacant housing to increase the supply of apartments and to take a step towards free public transport and the energy transition.
