Donald Trump’s sharp rhetoric in his inaugural address is strongly reminiscent of the start of his first term eight years ago. Now four years of new extremes, escalations and chaos threaten. Trump made it clear at the outset that when in doubt, he would not hesitate to use force to enforce his agenda at home and abroad. Former President Joe Biden told supporters moments later: “We will not give up the fight.”
‘We’re leaving the office. We will not give up the fight,” Biden said at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, where he stopped after Trump’s inauguration ceremony. Biden laughed as if he didn’t believe it, then darkened his expression and crossed himself.
This caused laughter from some of his team, even though the devout Catholic’s gesture was by no means a joke. “Today we heard the inaugural speech. We still have a lot to do,” said Biden, who had repeatedly described Trump as a threat to democracy.
Shortly before leaving office, the Democrat urgently warned that power was concentrated in the hands of a few extremely wealthy people and that unchecked abuse of power could have dangerous consequences.
“Leave the trailer out in the cold”
On Inauguration Day, the Democrats’ attacks continued. Alex Floyd of the party’s National Committee explains that the Republican initially filled his cabinet with billionaires. Trump then left his supporters out in the cold during the inauguration ceremony, while wealthy people with assets worth more than a trillion dollars were allowed to sit in the front row.
Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren wrote on the short message service X that the billionaires in the technology industry got better seats than Trump’s own ministers. “That says it all.”
