Kickl with president – and again everything looks at the Hofburg

Is blue black or new elections? After the last escalation, which receives which ministries, there is a radio silence. After the conversation of FPö -Baas Herbert Kickl with federal president Alexander van der Bellen, there can be more clarity today. As the “Krone” learned, Kickl is expected in the Hofburg in the early afternoon. What ÖVP -Baas Christian Stocker discussed with the head of state on Wednesday is unknown.

Blue euphoria evaporated quickly
Kickl and Van der Bellen had never been so green, but the federal president had commissioned the FPö boss to form the government after the sugar variant of the ÖVP, Spö and Neos were broken. Kickl, who had won the most votes with the FPö on September 29, 2024 in the elections of the National Council, was confirmed. With a lot of self -confidence, the Blue then started the conversations with the ÖVP, which the chairman had exchanged for it after Karl Nehammer was not negotiating with Kickl.

But the first euphoria quickly took place and a heated debate on two ministries soon joined the disagreements. Financial and inner – two important departments when it comes to designing the Republic. Both blue and black would like to have the ministerial function here. The FPö found the election winner in the stronger position, but the People’s Party was not that easily impressed.

Party heads did not get any further
On Tuesday a small round had finally come together with the party leaders to actually talk about unresolved chunks – but then it should have been relatively fast to distribute the ministries. It was pretty angry in late Tuesday afternoon, the ÖVP spoke about a “difficult phase”.

Since then there have been reports on radio silence between the party leader. Subgroups continued to negotiate on Wednesday, but in the FPö there was still a answer from the ÖVP to the List of Ministry on Thursday. The mood was tightened again when Kickl the Blue Claim compared to the finances and the Domestic Department on Wednesday- in the ÖVP it was “surprised”.

Silence about the conversation between Stocker and Van der Bellen
Stocker had an appointment with Van der Bellen on Wednesday afternoon. What was discussed there remained hidden. The ÖVP has not confirmed the appointment, just like the presidential office and has not made any statement since then. The Hofburg was also quiet for the meeting – they were “confidential conversations,” said it on Thursday. It is currently not planned for the head of state about the current situation.

In any case, Kickl is a conversation with Van der Bellen on Thursday. In the FPö you hope for more clarity how to proceed. After all, people do not know what the ÖVP was planning and what Stocker discussed with the president was said of blue negotiators.

The message was of course not the only open point in the negotiations. Also (EU) foreign policy or media, but also partly in the field of finance and taxes, for example, ensure heated debates in the subgroups. The most important negotiators must cause these unsolved questions, but so far you should not have really come.
