A secret letter from the Ministry of Transport to the countries in the eastern region reveals mass cutbacks for public transport in 2026. A number of train connections for students and commuters in Vienna and Lower Austria are threatened. However, political research research becomes a dispute between the FPö State Vice Udo Landbauer of Lower Austria and the former Minister of Greens Leonore Gewessler. What is behind the plans and which connections are made.
In the east, the plans of the previously Groene Ministry of Transport promised many new things for 2026. No fewer than three million extra train kilometers of services were calculated for the Ostregion, the plans for school transports and thus important residential work traffic are on schedule for a long time. Actually – because at the end of February, shortly before the new government was committed, the countries in the eastern region still had a traffic policy message. The federal Ministry of Climate Protection, still under the responsibility of the green minister Leonore Gewessler, has withdrawn its dedication to finance railway services per e -mail, which is available for the “Krone”.
Commuters and students as a victim
Of the originally planned extra to three million train kilometers in the eastern region, the services were painted more than 250,000 kilometers. “The patients are commuters and students who trust public transport every day. Instead of a clear and reliable planning, we are confronted with unexpected cuts, unclear responsibilities and a massive withdrawal from the ministry. The green minister has left a stack of broken glass and has a clearance of a clearing on the track,” is made by Lower of Landbau.
Lower Austria is most affected with a total of twelve important rail connections – and therefore a loss of 80 percent of the announced AIDS. The savings plans but also connections in Upper Austria, Vienna, Burgenland and Styria.
12.5 million euros in self -preservation for countries?
To guarantee the expansion of the offer, according to the Ministry, the State must cover the financing of 100 percent and therefore bear extra costs of a maximum of 12.5 million euros. Sumen, who will hardly be for the financially financially mentioned state treasury registers. “Until now there has always been a solution for a cost division. Jewessler has brought it together to break the porcelain on the back of the commuters, students and regions,” said Landbauer, who now hopes for Spö Transport Minister Peter Hanke.
Gewessler tries to clarify himself – and no counterattack: “Landbauer tries to distract again from his own failure and tells the lower Austrians a fairy tale,” says De Groenen. The only decisive factor for the lower expansion of the offer is the only reduction plans that have been negotiated about his FPö in government negotiations.
Blue-black savings plans such as trigger?
As is known, the Ministry of Finance sent a savings plan to Brussels and asked for savings. The officials of the Ministry of Climate Protection then recommended the relevant austerity measures. The victims of this clearing policy of the FPö are the people in our country. “Instead of taking responsibility, Landbauer tries to push the blue-black reduction policy to others. Therefore, in clarity: Dear Mr. Landbauer, their party friends in Vienna no longer reduced trains in Neder-Oostrijk,” says the former Minister.
