The Spö focuses on this urgent appeal to the federal government. A new regulation of the structures is required for sustainable solutions for dampening the municipal financial misery.
The financial situation of the communities in the federal states is increasingly deteriorating. More and more municipalities cannot create a balanced budget. “In the first discussions about the formation of a federal government, Rot-Schwarz still had a financial injection of 1.5 billion euros in mind. Now there is no question of immediate measures,” says Roland Fürst, chairman of the Spö Club.
Help urgently needed
At least one “acute billion” is requested without requirements directly for all municipalities in Austria to stabilize the budgets. “171 Burgenland communities can benefit from 30 million euros,” says Fürst. For sustainable solutions, a crisis should be planned as quickly as possible, Fürst emphasizes: “If there is no help, it will be dramatic. Financing for the federal and national governments must be regulated to conclude the gap of the income expenditure of the municipalities.”
Money is not enough for projects
In the federal government that were originally planned, € 50 million would be omitted to Burgenland. “The problems are only worse without the survival and without structural measures by the federal government. We are not talking about the renovation of the streets and schools, but it is in fact about maintaining the current company,” says Thomas Hoffmann, Spö Municipal spokesman and mayor. In various communities, the money would not be sufficient to be able to present projects for the financing projects.
Limited on the top
According to De Spö, the Financial AID appell will be submitted to the federal government as an application in the next meeting in the parliament of the State. On March 25, the “community summit” mentioned by Governor Hans Peter Doskozil. Will there be a package of measures without a waste association -deal? “Negotiating at the top. All details are then presented to the public,” says Fürst.
