The president of the Basque PP assures that the murder of the Ermua councilor has changed the course of Basque society, as from then on people took to the streets to fight against ETA.

Carlos Iturgaizpresident of the PP of the CAV, pointed out that the assassination of Miguel ngel Blanco “marked the history of this country, the history of many people” and added that “what ETA did with Miguel Ángel Blanco was to encourage the leaders of the PP that we were all threatened, as it was.”
As Iturgaiz explained in an interview on Radio Euskadi’s “Boulevard” this morning, what happened to the councilor from Ermuarra was a turning point in Euskadi’s history. “We had a disease, the disease of fear. You couldn’t talk about politics. Nobody even trusted the neighbors,” he stressed. However, that event changed the course of Basque society as, as he notes, “people began to concentrate on the streets.”
when they are fulfilled 25 years since the murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco, Iturgaiz remembered “those unforgettable days” in front of Radio Euskadi’s microphones. “When Miguel was killed, my partner Lorena was pregnant, and I remember sitting next to Chelo, Miguel’s mother, and telling her that in honor of her son, my son would be named Mikel.”
Likewise, Iturgai has also referred to the councilor’s meetings: “His dream as a councilor was for Ermua to have a sports center,” he pointed out. “He only charged 300 pesetas because he was a councillor, he did it out of love for his family and neighbors,” he stressed. Therefore, he believes the kidnapping and murder was even more brutal.
This Sunday, Ermua will pay tribute to Miguel Ángel Blanco on the 25th anniversary of his assassination, an act in which the King and Queen of Spain, Sánchez, Urkullu, former government presidents and political leaders will participate.
When asked if he would like EH Bildu on that historic day, Iturgaiz replied that during this term of office “Bildu has had opportunities to condemn attacks, murders or threats against people of the PP, and he has not”. In that sense, he emphasized that he is not surprised, as according to him “Bildu’s party is a party led by ETA leaders.”
“There is still a party that is not even committed to coexistence and has not passed the test of democratic cotton,” he noted.
As for the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, Iturgaiz believes that this Sunday he has “a golden opportunity” for all of Spain to “break up with Bildu and stop being his partner
