The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is slowly losing patience. Apparently countless commandants do not want to follow the call from the PKK founder Abdullah Öcalan to dissolve the organization.
PKK leaders want the Ankara government to submit the weapons. This has repeatedly rejected this since then, as well as a ceasefish -which has unilaterally announced the PKK. Now Erdogan pushes the dissolution of the Kurdish underground organization: “We have no unlimited time and patience. We expect that the organization will solve without further delay and completely cover its weapons.”
Arbitration of the mayor of Istanbul destroys hope
For many in Turkey, the call had aroused the hope for an end to the conflict that has been going on for decades and a democratization of the country. However, the arrest of the opposition politician Ekrem Imamoglu has largely destroyed them. The mayor of Istanbul used is accused of supporting the PKK, among other things. His arrest has caused strong protest and overthrown the country in one of the most serious political crises.
Some observers assume that the prospect of the government to set up the Kurdish conflict that the opposition wants to achieve pro -Kurdish and nationalist camps. Kurdish voters had a central part of the Imamoglus elections.
