In his contribution, Trump described that he is working with the National Park Service to improve the historic gardens of the White House and at the same time retain history. “The bad news is that everything has to end, and this tree is in a terrible state, a very dangerous security risk, directly at the entrance of the White House, and now has to be removed,” Trump wrote.

He promised that a new, “very beautiful tree” was planted as a replacement. The wood of the Magnolia must be stored and used for “high and noble purposes”.

Baum survived many presidents
In his long history, Jackson Magnolia has experienced countless important events. In 1994 it was damaged by the crash from a Cessna plane to the White House, and in 2017 there was an extensive pruning of the tree. Due to its age and fragile wood structure, the tree has increasingly been repaired in recent years.

Although the tree is now being removed, Jackson Magnolia remains a symbol of the long history of the White House. The replacement tree must be planted in the coming weeks.
