The German government has imposed a temporary stopover on UN refugees. This was justified with the continuous coalition negotiations of the CDU, CSU and SPD. Only those people whose procedures are already well advanced must be resetted.
The Union and the SPD had determined in their exploratory paper to end voluntary federal recording programs as far as possible and not to encourage new programs. In this case it is the so-called resettlement program of the UN Refugee High Commissioner (UNHCR), which is financially supported by the EU committee.
The German government was originally agreed 13,100 places for UN refugees in 2024 and 2025. So far, 5061 people have been introduced according to data from the UNHCR. This also includes humanitarian recordings of Syrian refugees from Turkey, who had agreed the EU with the Turkish government in 2016.
During the procedure, the UNHCR suggests that people who need protection. German authorities then conduct surveys and security checks on the site. There are also additional humanitarian admission programs in Germany.
