After China has been extremely defensive against the enormous import duties of Trump, the European Union is now active. The countermeasures must take effect on 15 April.
The EU has decided the first countermeasures for the American steel and aluminum rates. According to EU circles, the list of 66 pages must contain around 25 percent on soybeans, clothing and iron, steel and aluminum goods. 10 percent must be due to other goods.
According to the EU committee, the first EU rates of 15 April should apply. The Chinese Ministry of Finance had stated on Wednesday to increase taxes to American products to 84 percent.
Whiskey is saved
The American steel and aluminum rates had already come into effect for the large customs package of Trump. The EU list that was decided today is intended to absorb our meat, grain, wine, wood and clothing, as well as chewing gum, gums, vacuum cleaner and toilet paper. In contrast to the original plans, no additional rates may be charged at American whiskey.
In a message on Wednesday, the EU committee emphasized that the countermeasures can be suspended at any time if the United States agree with an honest and balanced negotiating result.
Hattmannsdorfer: Build threatening background
The Economic Minister of Austria Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (ÖVP) argued on Wednesday to build “a threatening background” to the United States to strengthen the EU negotiation position. For tactical reasons it is necessary to indicate the United States “that we have a third package in preparation,” said Hattmannsdorfer after the government exam.
In particular, the focus must be on technology companies, but not only on rates, but also due to tax and regulatory measures. Hattmannsdorfer was satisfied with the list of products in the second package against -Tariffs.
