It is a political stunner with an extensive consequences: the National Council wants to temporarily suspend the reunification of the family for asylum seekers in the coming week. This stems from the provisional agenda. The plan: The legal basis for the stop must be made on Friday. This means that many families can remain separate for at least a year.
Minister of the Interior Karner (ÖVP) makes no secret of it: the stop should apply for at least twelve months. It remains formally possible to submit applications for family reunification – but the procedure is actually frozen until the Regulation has changed or canceled.
Protest by NGOs – probably in danger to children
The protest of aid organizations was not coming for long. Child protection organizations increase the alarm: children and adolescents in particular would suffer from the measure. Many NGOs also see enormous worries. The interior committee will only meet on Tuesday to prepare the template on Friday. Changes are still possible until the day of the mood.
What else happens in parliament
Apart from the asylum adjustment, the political week is more a sign of reports and symbolic policy. So the instruction report of the Ministry of Justice, but before 2023, presented the right -wing extremismer report, also before 2023, and the auditors report for the previous year. A change in the Renewable Expansion Act is also legally relevant: more money for photovoltaïschens, even when the components come from Switzerland.
In the meantime, the FPö is demanding to punish illegal access – and wants to reduce the age for feasibility for up to twelve years. The coalition, on the other hand, relies on measures to reduce energy costs. Together with De Groenen, it is asked that Austria should continue to work for the protection and support of Ukrainian children. And there is also agreement in terms of human rights: together the four parties condemn the ban on the Pride Parade in Hungary. All factions A concern is an increased use of Austria against the spread of nuclear weapons.
Plakolm as a guest in the “asking time”
Chancellor -Minister Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP) will be a guest in the “Question time” on Friday. The topics for the “current hour” and the “European lesson” on Thursday are only awarded by FPö or Spö.
