With financial aid – Hundreds of Syrians have left Germany

After the overthrow of ruler Bashar al-Assad, 464 Syrians voluntarily returned to their home country from Germany. You have received financial help from the federal office for migration and refugees (BAMF).

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the program promotes “exclusively medium -sized people”. Between half -januarium and Mid -UPril, requests for support for 1326 people were made. For 132 people, however, the financing applications had stopped, said a spokesperson for the ministry on Thursday.

The BAMF reimburses costs of several thousand euros, for example expenses for flight or bus tickets (200 euros for adults, 100 euros for minors) and extra medical costs (up to 2000 euros). The financial start -up -help is 1000 euros for an adult and 500 euros for a child. There is a maximum of 4,000 euros per family.

Since 2017 there has also been the possibility to promote voluntary departure to Syria through programs by the federal states. The BAMF would share these costs on request, the spokesperson said. In the previous year, 87 Syrians used this possibility, so far 31. The authorities did not always know whether a person left Germany voluntarily, said it. After all, outfits are also possible without financing.

Karner: “Must get even better”
The government of Austria also wants to move Syrians more and more for a voluntary return trip. According to Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner (ÖVP), 250 people voluntarily returned in the previous year. “We have to get even better here,” he said. Depending on the unclear political situation after the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024, it is not inevitable. According to Karner, this must be “in the medium term”.
