EU migration commissioner Magnus Brunner was elected on Wednesday as one of the ten vice presidents and vice president of the European People’s Party (EVP). He received 356 of the 546 votes in Valencia.
“As the strongest political power in Europe, we are a reliable partner in an uncertain world that stands for democracy and freedom. I am delighted to help form our vision for a rich and safe Europe,” said Brunner. The German CSU politician Manfred Weber was re-elected on Tuesday as EPP president, he was the only candidate. Brunner received the seven votes among the twelve candidates for the office of or the banking screw.
The predecessor of Brunner in the EU committee, Johannes Hahn (ÖVP), was also an EPP vice president for years. At 188 on a total of 720 MPs, the EPP is the strongest power in the European Parliament.
