The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced a new massive military operation in the Gaza Strip. “In the coming days we will continue with full force to complete the operation,” said Netanyahu for reservists, according to a notification from his office on Tuesday. The goal is to “destroy” Hamas and “destruction”.
The statement follows battles for months, in which Israel tries to regain control of parts of the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu has not provided any specific information about the schedule or the scope of the upcoming offensive.
Humanitarian situation is increasing
At the same time, the UN Nutrition and Agricultural Organization (FAO) warns of the humanitarian crisis. Agriculture in Gaza is about to collapse. The World Health Organization (WHO) observes an increase in malnourished children.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 57 children have already died from the effects of hunger. So far, the WHO has not been able to verify these figures independently.
Free from the hostage provides hope
On Monday evening, an Israeli hostage agent from Gaza was released for the first time in a long time. The 21-year-old Edan Alexander, who also has US citizenship, was released, according to the Israeli government, as part of an agreement mediated by the US without the direct participation of Israel.
In a published telephone conversation with Netanyahu, Alexander said: “I am doing well.” He is currently still in medical treatment.
