The German Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) defended the tightened border controls despite international criticism. The Ministry of the Interior in Vienna made a first record on Friday.
“This policy change has already started at the German borders,” emphasized the CSU politician on Friday in the Berlin Bundestag with a view to the desired rejections of migrants and asylum seekers.
Despite stricter controls from Germany, the situation on the border of the Austrian-German is still quiet, according to the Ministry of the Interior in Vienna. So far, Austria has “no significant changes” on the border.
Ministry of the Interior in Vienna: no returns so far
So far there have been no asylum applications on the Austrian side by the German control measures, such as spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior on Friday. There were no returns either.
When asked what goes beyond the people rejected by Germany, the Ministry of the Interior said that the experience has shown that the order was given to leave the German federal territory – usually by public transport. However, there is no transfer from hand to hand.
Dobrindt: considerably more rejections at German borders
Since sharpening the German border controls a week ago, according to Dobrindt, the number of rejections has increased by almost half. Last week the German federal police rejected 739 people on the borders, he said on Thursday. That was 45 percent more than in the last week with 511 rejections. Asylum seekers also belonged to the rejected: 32 of the 51 people who expressed an asylum application were rejected.
The German approach has already led to criticism from neighboring countries such as Poland or the Czech Republic. The legal situation for the rejections of asylum seekers is also considered unclear and controversial. Skeptical voices also came from the ranks of the coalition partner SPD.
Karner UND Hattmannsdorfer Welcome German measures
In Austria, the Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) said that any illegal rejections were not tolerated by Germany and it it was insisted that European legislation was compliance. At the same time, he welcomed German efforts in the fight against illegal migration. Economic Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (ÖVP) also praised the increased checks on Friday.
Berlin wants to deport to Syria and Afghanistan again
Dobrindt emphasized that Germany has reached a loading limit: “And that’s why we have to act.” He will also be difficult for both rights and left -wing extremism and expand the powers of the security authorities. For example, the IP addresses must be stored by computers and mobile phones for a maximum of three months in order to better determine perpetrators. They will also be deported to Syria and Afghanistan. “Painting or flight home” will be important for dangers and criminals in the future.
