The Vice Chancellor and Minister of Culture Andreas Babler of Austria was one of the first congratulations when ESC winner JJ was received at the airport of Vienna. Then the problematic statements of the artist became public. The Spöbaas has now broken its silence.
Babler commented on the Israeli-critical statements from the winner of the domestic song festival on Wednesday. These were ‘too general, undifferentiated and not smart’, he said during a press conference at the Regional Culture Reference Conference in the Tyroolean. But one should not be quiet, “when we see what happens to the Palestinian civilian population”.
“There must also be loud political voices from culture,” said the Spö Boss in his first reaction to JJS’s statements. Babler, however, noted that the “voices are no longer”. The Vice Chancellor apparently did not agree with the sometimes violent political reactions that the JJ’s statements had activated – even after a second, perspective.
As a reminder: the 24-year-old had sharpened Israel sharply in an interview and put it at one level in a comparison with Russia. Both countries are aggressors. The Jewish state, which this year sent a survivor of the Nova -Bloedbad for the Song Contest, must be excluded from the competition next year. The singer said afterwards that he was sorry if he was “misunderstood”. He criticizes the Israeli government, but condemns violence all over the world. This had caused both nationally and internationally indignation.
Babler takes JJ under protection
The social -democrat Babler was silent on this subject for days. During the press conference, however, he protected the artist. It must be considered for Braers how the “fire” was also kept according to JJ’s statement “so upright”.
Babler added the X platform on Wednesday and fiercely criticized the Israeli procedure in the Gaza Strip. He is based on the statements of the German Chancellor. Friedrich Merz recently equated the procedure against the Palestinian civilian population with an interruption of international law.
The Christian Democrat currently sees no connection between the Israeli military offensive in the enclave with the legitimate struggle for the right to exist of the Jewish state. Brutality against civil society can no longer be founded with the fight “against Hamas’ terrorism”.
In the light of the German change of course, the Spö -Baas now wanted to call in not to look away any longer. “This means consistent use for immediate, complete and safe humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip, so that the care for the civilian population can be guaranteed with vital goods and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip can be ended.”
At the same time, all diplomatic efforts should be aimed at immediately supporting an immediately -the -fires and to confirm a solution with two states as a goal, the Vice Chancellor continues.
