Minister of Social Affairs Korinna Schumann (Spö) wants to reform social assistance without playing against each other. The system must become more fair and more targeted. “Everyone who works must always have more than someone who lives of social benefits – that’s a basic principle,” said Schumann.

At the moment, 73 percent of households who receive social assistance are so -branded revolts, said Schumann, in which the income, including unemployment benefits and emergency aid, is not sufficient to earn a living. “So we also talk about thousands of single parents who end up in poverty. Social aid was and is the social network together with other performance, which we have to spend in Austria because it needs it.”
In their opinion, the various benefits of cash in the federal states are a problem. Uniform minimum standards are required here. From the point of view of the minister, it is already sufficiently controlled, ie the right to references, including the wealth and income situation of the people, is checked.
Dumping promises against social dumping
It is not just about income, but also about participation. “Not in the last place are honest wages that you can live well – with fair working conditions. Here the social partnership has been doing great work for many years – I will work for social dumping and exploitation to bring out,” Schumann said. Social policy Austria should not make anyone rich or abandoned.
