When Donald Trump gets a high political visit in the White House, this often ends with shame. According to Wolodyymyr Senskyj and Cyril Ramaphosa, President Liberia had to first experience – because Joseph Boakai was praised for his good English – the official language of his country …
Trump broke out in Washington on Wednesday in honor of a group of African heads of state. Many of the guests spoke a different language. Then Boakai took the microphone and spoke praising words about the US and his hosts. The President Liberias spoke in English, the official language of his country.
“Where did you learn to speak so beautiful?”
Trump was impressed and said, “So good English. (…) Where did you learn to speak so beautiful?” Boakai seemed restless. “In Liberia?” Then Trump asked with ignorance. “Yes, sir,” said Boakai. “It’s very interesting,” said Trump. “I have people at this table who can’t speak so well.”
English is the official language in Liberia
English is the official language of Liberia, although various indigenous languages are also spoken. Liberia was founded in 1822 as a colony for free black Americans. The idea came from white Americans who tried to solve a problem that they saw: the future of blacks in the US after the end of slavery.
Already humiliated Senskyj and Ramaphosa
As a host in the White House, Trump has caused resentment several times. The Ukrainian president Wolodyymyr Senskyj was literally presented and humiliated as a schoolboy.
A few weeks later, President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, was confronted with false genocide charges.
