According to US President Donald Trump, the first of the promised Patriot Rocket Defense Systems is already “on the way to Ukraine” and it is said that they come from German shares. The only problem: the German government knows nothing about such a delivery.
The Ministry of Defense in Berlin was somewhat surprised by the announcement of Trump and stated on Wednesday that no knowledge of the current deliveries of the Patriot Rocket Defense System said to Ukraine. “I cannot confirm that this is currently on the road. I am not aware of that,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of the NTV news channel.
However, he said on Monday that there should be a conversation of the Ukraine supporter states (UDCG), who will make questions about providing further patriot systems to Ukraine. The goal is to find solutions to implement the delivery of the systems as quickly as possible.
Pistorius: “Everyone must open their portfolios”
The German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius emphasized on Monday when he visited Washington that Germany would make his contribution. After a meeting with the American Minister of Defense Pete Hegseeth, Pistorius also asked the partners to support the initiative: “Everyone must open their wallet here.” The point is quickly to get the amounts that are initially needed to strengthen air defense. Here Ukraine is under great pressure. “So everyone is now obliged to confess the color here.” Pistorius also showed that the Patriot Systems could not be delivered so quickly, which would last for months.
France does not want to participate
There are countless supporters within the EU and NATO for Trump’s initiative to support Ukrainian air defense against Russia in the war, but the announcement on Monday will probably have surprised some allies. Above all, the part that “no cent of our tax money” will flow. Some clearly do not want to participate either. According to a “polico” report, France has already left. President Emmanuel Macron has long been campaigning for Europeans to build their own defense industry. For this reason, Paris does not want to participate in the initiative to buy American weapons in the report.
