“Holistic solution” – Doskozil also insists on a petrol price ceiling

Date:

In the midst of the debate about capping electricity prices in Austria, the governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ), follows up: a petrol price cap is also needed, he renewed his question on Saturday. It is also “completely wrong” to talk at all about steering effects, such as the CO2 tax.

In the “Journal zu Gast” of Ö1, Doskozil pinpoints the political calculation behind the now planned cut in electricity bills by the federal government – after all, in Lower Austria, state elections are already scheduled for next year.

What he misses in the debate, however, is how to get gas prices under control and how to sustain fuel and food. According to the governor, there is a need for a ‘holistic’ solution.

Electricity covers a “huge cost”
Doskozil sees the fact that the federal government’s proposal currently being discussed will represent a “huge cost”: “The market is currently irrational in terms of prices – you have to intervene,” says Doskozil.

Instead, he pushed for a temporary cap on the price of petrol: “Here the federal government should limit it to 1.50 euros and cut taxes in half,” he demanded. According to Doskozil, this would be a “mixed variant of interventions” in which the market is still allowed to a certain extent, but on the other hand tax relief is provided.

“Missing the Target”
That this would not be targeted and not an ecological motive is irrelevant to Doskozil: “I believe that we are now in a situation and the whole price increase has reached a dynamic where we no longer have to talk about steering effects.” effects and CO2 Discussing pricing “is totally wrong in my opinion” and “doesn’t get along”, now it’s about relieving the population.
