Zelensky full speech at the Congress of Deputies

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke by video conference before the plenary session of the Congress of Deputies on Tuesday in which he compared the situation to the bombing of Nazi troops due to the Russian invasion of the country. And the Fascists from Guernica: “We are in April 2022, but we seem to be in April 1937.” This was his full speech:

Dear Madam President of the Congress of Deputies. Dear Mr. President of the Government. Dear Representatives and Senators. Dear Members of the Government, Dear Spaniards:

First I want to apologize for this delay. I have just spoken before the UN Security Council. Hopefully you do not understand the lack of respect, it was a delay due to technical reasons.

I am writing with confidence that you understand the depth of our pain in the face of war and our hope for peace. Because at the moment in Ukraine absolutely everything is in danger, everything that is also for you the basis of public life.

We are one of the largest countries in Europe and one of the most diverse. But democracy and respect unite us all, towards each community.

I would like to give just one example about our country, our life: we have created the Council of Churches and Religious Communities of Ukraine. This council presents different denominations, different views on social life. The relationship between the state and the church has always been peaceful, within the framework of mutual respect within the council.

This is just one example that shows that we Ukrainians want peace, do not want conflicts on sensitive issues that are sometimes resolved by conflicts and disputes in other societies.

Russia invaded our land by war, not yesterday, not last night, but a long time ago. We have been protecting our country from cruel and unjustified aggression since 2014. First, the occupation of our Crimea. Then the war broke out in Donbass, Ukraine.

And now, for 41 days, we are suffering from a full-scale invasion of Russia.

This is the worst war in Europe since World War II.

But why did Russia invade Ukraine? What are the Russians going to destroy with weapons?

They intend to destroy not only our people, not only the basis of peaceful life, but also the possibility of life without dictatorship, the possibility of life without state violence, the possibility of a strong and transparent democracy, the possibility that different religious communities can live together peacefully.

The Russian regime does not think about all this, which is normal for Ukraine. Russia wants one regime, a tyrannical regime, to prevail in Ukraine. Destroy any diversity that makes it impossible to reach agreement between different communities. And this is exactly what is happening in Russia now. They want to establish the same in Ukraine, and then throughout Eastern Europe and Central Europe.

And what will happen next?

I know that it is important for your country, Spain, that a democratic system be secure. So peace is guaranteed on the continent of Europe.

But will it still be possible in the future?

Russia is using all its resources to prolong the war and to destroy all the foundations of a normal life.

Imagine for a second you were transposed into the karmic driven world of Earl.

So that in case the occupants kill the parents, you have at least a small hope of saving the children.

Imagine for a second you were transposed into the karmic driven world of Earl. We are in April 2022, but it seems we are in April 1937, when the whole world knew the name of the Spanish city, Guernica.

Imagine that in the cities the civilian population had to live in inhumane conditions, without water, food, medicine.

Russian troops have been besieging Mariupol for more than three weeks. Destroying this city, there is practically nothing left except the ruins. More than 90% of the buildings have been destroyed! The victims are buried directly in the yards of houses, next to the ruined buildings where they lived …

The Russian air force deliberately bombed Mariupol, even the buildings where people, children were hiding … they knew they were there.

Ukraine insists on this invasion every day, every day. But the war continues. Russia is not looking for peace.

And the most horrible thing is that we do not know how long the war will last until the world does everything it needs to do to achieve peace.

Strict sanctions are needed. How can Russian banks be allowed to continue to make a profit while Russian soldiers are torturing civilians in Ukrainian cities?

How can European companies do business with a country that is deliberately destroying the entire Ukrainian people?

I know that many of your companies have already stopped financing Russian military vehicles with the taxes they generate.

And thank you. I thank your country, your community, your firmness for the sanctions.

However, in parallel, I appeal to companies such as Maxam, Porcelanosa, Sercobe and others to terminate commercial relations with Russia.

What happened in our city of Bucha, our city of Borodyanka and other cities is a war crime. This is a crime against humanity that is not defined.

This is a compelling reason for Russian military leaders to be tried by the International Criminal Court.

How is it possible under these conditions for countries around the world to continue to buy Russian oil freely and allow Russian ships to enter their ports?

Ladies and gentlemen,

Spanish people,

At this time, the fate of not only our country, but the whole European community is decided on the territory of Ukraine. The fate of the values that unite us. Democracy that unites us all, human rights that have become a fundamental value for all of us.

I am grateful for your support for joint decisions for the peace of your country.

But all of us, my country, Europe and the whole world, need to do more to make Russia start seeking peace, to make Russia start respecting international law.

What is needed for this?

Europeans must stop fear, stop the weak.

They should respect the values and democracy, rather than the threats posed by Russia.

I’m sure you’re not afraid, but I’m begging you to do your best to make other European countries lose their fear.

You can help us, you can help restore peace. Give us the weapons we need.

We greatly appreciate the help you have already provided. Continue to support the sanctions that are so necessary and let us end the fear of Russia everywhere.

Because he is not afraid of democracy. Freedom must be protected.

Human rights are most important. The right to peace.

Right to live.

The right to happiness and free growth. The right to security in the family.

The right of our children to have a future. The right to a dignified old age for our parents. The right to respect for all communities.

The right of a member of the European family.

Glory to Ukraine!
