On September 1, the market closes for major European leagues. A day later when the term ends, as we already expected in Mundo Deportivo in May, for three European competitions: Champions League, Europe Y Conference League. For teams that have qualified for the group stage of any of the three continental competitions.
As has happened in some seasons, a player can play in this group stage with a different team from the one that played in the qualifying round. In this first registration, all clubs must comply with two rules: the minimum eight chips of locally trained players and the so-called B list.
A maximum of 25 players can register in all European teams and where two of them have to be goalkeepers. The third party may be registered on the so-called “B” List. And within this first list, UEFA maintains the requirement of at least eight places reserved only for “locally trained players”.
There are two categories of locally trained players. On the one hand, there are players trained at the club. These are soccer players who belong to any club category for three years between the ages of 15 and 21; They are called ‘Club-trained’ and must have been registered for three full seasons or 36 months, continuous or not, with the respective club, within this age range.
On the other hand, there are the federation-trained players: players who have trained at another club of the same federation for three years between the ages of 15 and 21. These are called “Association-trained” where the player must have spent 3 full seasons or 36 months, continuous or not, in teams attached to the federation of the country to which the respective club belongs, within this age range. In the case of Spanish clubs, it has to be in the RFEF.
According to the same regulations, a full season is considered to be the period between the first and last match of the main national competition played by the club and those in which the player turns 15 and 21 are counted as full seasons. In addition, the immediately preceding is also taken into account if the player turns 15 after the last match of the competition, and before June 30. And the immediately following if the player turns 21 before the first match of the competition, and after July 1. If a club has fewer than eight locally trained players in their squad, the maximum number of players on the A-list is reduced accordingly.
The ‘B’ list, unlimited European competitions
And then there is the so-called “B” list, which can consist of an unlimited number of players and can be registered until midnight the day before the match. The players on this list must meet a series of requirements. The first is that they must have been born after January 1, 2001 but they must also have been registered with the club for at least two continuous years or three years, with one in debt, after turning 15 years old.
The next registration period ends in 2-F
The next deadline for registration of players set by UEFA is Friday, February 2, 2023, as soon as the second transfer window ends, which coincides with the start of next year. During that time, clubs will have the right to register three new players for the round of 16 of the Champions League, Europa League and the Conference itself.
All three new players can participate in UEFA club competition in the same season. So any of the three could be in the Champions League group stage for one club and the final rounds for another. Be it this competition and be the group stage in one competition and the rounds in any of the others.
