The French Adrian Mannarino became this Saturday, at age 34, the oldest winner of the Winston Salem tournamentby defeating Serbian Laslo Djere in the final.
Mannarino won 7-6(1) and 6-4 in one hour and 45 minutes in the first match of his career with Djere and snatched the record for the oldest champion of this tournament from Austrian Jurgen Melzer, who won it at the age of 32 in 2013.
The left-handed player came back from a break down in the first set before being able to force a tiebreaker, in which he prevailed by an authoritarian 7-1.
It was a psychological blow for Djerecontesting the first final of his career on a fast surface.
