Kyrgios fined for “spitting and obscenities”

Australian Nick Kyrgios was fined $7,500 for “spitting and audible obscenities” during his second-round victory at the US Open on Wednesday, Reuters news agency has learned.

The fine is the largest imposed on a player in the tournament so far.

The Wimbledon finalist had an ongoing dialogue with himself throughout his 7-6(3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over the Frenchman Benjamin Bonzibut bounced back when he was broken at the end of the fourth set.

He immediately spat in the direction of the pack of his companions and technicians. He told one of them: “Go home if you don’t support me, brother,” he shouted during the exchange.

“You won’t watch,” he continued angrily.

Kyrgios also complained about the smell of cannabis in their night game at the stadium louis armstrong and he said he was worried that his asthma might get worse.

Tickets for unsportsmanlike conduct are nothing new for the 27-year veteran.

He was fined for spitting at a fan after his first-round victory at Wimbledon this year and again for insulting a referee in his heated fourth-round win over Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Kyrgios was also charged with defamation by a fan who accused him of acting on the Wimbledon court as if he had “700 drinks” during his final loss at Novak Djokovicwhere he also scolded members of his players’ box.
