Mathias Pogba has denied an extortion claim against his brother Paul

Date:

Trouble continues in the Pogba family. Now Mathias, through his lawyer, has denied participating in the extortion attempts against his brother Paul, a Juventus midfielder and member of the French team who is currently recovering from a meniscus operation.

Mathias Pogba’s lawyer, Richard Arbib, said in a statement that “given the evolution of the case and its coverage in the media,” his client “wants to firmly point out that he is completely oblivious to any method of extortion against his brother Paul Pogba.”

Justice investigates

Last week, two investigative judges were appointed to investigate the complaint filed in July by Paul Pogba, who was the alleged target of an extortion scheme by his brother and childhood friends, who demanded 13 million euros alleging to him that they were not helped financially. .

For its part, the Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation in August for attempted organized extortion, overseen by the anti-corruption police.

Mathias wanted to defuse the situation

Arbib insisted that “Mathias Pogba wants more than anything to defuse the situation with his brother.”

The case became public on August 27 after Mathias Pogba posted a video and tweeted threatening to share “explosive revelations” about his brother and Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe made a splash

Paul Pogba has repeatedly told investigators that the blackmailers intended to discredit him when they said he asked a witch doctor to blackmail Mbappe.

Pual Pogba denied that accusation and Mbappé sided with his player and teammate in the French team that won the 2018 World Cup. “He called me, he gave me his version of events,” Mbappé said on Monday. “It was his word against his brother’s word. He (Paul Pogba) already has some problems and I don’t think this is the time to add more. We’ll see how all that goes, I’m pretty detached from all that.”

He paid 100,000 euros

French officials revealed that Pogba paid €100,000 to extortionists who demanded more money. Pogba reportedly made the payment after masked and armed men threatened him in a Paris apartment in March while he was in France for a bleu match.

Mathias Pogba, 32, is also a soccer player and has spent most of his career in lower-tier teams in England and other European countries, including Lorca in 2020.
