Fernando Alonso was unable to achieve his goal of scoring a single point in the F1 Italian GP. He had scored points for 10 consecutive Grands Prix and wanted this to be the 11th, but a problem with his Alpine forced him to park his car in the pits and end his career when he was fighting for in seventh place.
“Are we having a problem with the power delivery?” asked the Spaniard at the start of the race. “We don’t see”, replied his engineer. “Wow”, he answered in surprise. But finally, on lap 32 the pilot was alerted by the Spaniard to a problem and told to go to the pits, where the Asturian got out of his car and drove away, losing some very important points to keep getting closer to his teammate who Ocon in the World Championship general classification and to help Alpine against McLaren in the fight for fourth position in the Constructors’ World Championship.
