German Anna Lena Friedsam became the opponent of the first favorite, Canadian Emma Raducanu, with her victory over American Elizabeth Mandlik by 0-6, 6-4 and 6-1.
France’s Diane Parry also advanced after defeating Croatian Donna Vekic in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 6-1). She will play against Russian Alexandra Potapova, the ninth favorite. And Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, who eliminated Romanian Gabriela Ruse (6-1, 4-6 and 6-4) met in the second round with Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova fifth seed. In addition, British Jodie Burrage qualified by defeating Serbian Aleksandra Krunic in doubles 6-4.
