Arsenal exacerbated their problems by beating Brighton

Date:

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal received a big blow on Saturday in their quest to qualify for the next Champions League, as they lost to the Emirates against Graham Potter’s Brighton (1-2). Leandro Trossard and Enock Mwepu were the ones who scored the goals that opened up a small crisis in the ‘gunner’ team ranks. And it is Arsenal have lost three of its last four Premier games, where it has lost two in a row.

Arsenal had no afternoon. Not in the game, not even with luck. Mwepu, who scored from the penalty spot, put Brighton ahead in the 29th minute after a pass by Moisés Caicedo.

At the discount in the first half, the referee canceled Gabriel Martinelli’s goal due to offside after consulting with the VAR.

Arteta’s team problems worsened in the 67th minute, when Enock Mwepu himself scored second for Brighton after a superb game involving ex-Barcelonista Marc Cucurella (protagonist of a great performance), Alexis Mac Allister, Trossard (author of a big heel) and Caicedo, who attended Mwepu.

However, Arsenal’s hopes were revived in the final period, when, after two shots at the crossbar, former Madrid player Martín Odegaard scored after the ball hit Danny Welbeck. The London team pushed hard in an effort to save at least one point, but Cartagena goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was brilliant. The goalkeeper saved his team, among other interventions, by deflecting a header from Edward Nketia. All this in an afternoon that Bukayo Saka wasted his chances.

Brighton, 11th, achieved a prestigious victory and Arsenal remain 5th, with the same points as Tottenham 4th and this Saturday Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho visit Aston Villa.
