F1 GP Australia: This is the start at Albert Park

Date:

Between the walls of Albert Park’s urban layout, it is always expected that the start can be moved, especially across the peloton. In a race where it’s hard to overtake, the start is the perfect time to take a risk. But in the end, the first meters of the 2022 F1 Australian GP were clean and calm, there were no accidents and there was an impeccable Charles Leclerc starting against Verstappen, defending his first position without problems.

After a brutal Saturday with Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso, the Madrid native started in ninth and the Asturian made it from tenth place, both farther than their natural position in speed. For this reason, they both come out with hard rubber to try to get positions using the technique. However, they should be punished by it from the start because of the greater difficulty in heating the rubber on the first lap.

Fernando Alonso got the position from Sainz to climb to 9th, but quickly lost the handicap on that first lap by wearing hard rubber and Gasly caught up to climb again to 10th. Carlos Sainz’s luck was even worse, as he apparently had a clutch problem at the start that caused him to lose up to 4 positions, dropping from 9th to 13th place. Because of the hard rubber, he lost another position to Mick Schumacher (14th). And on lap 2, when he started his attack, he retired when he entered the gravel after trying to overtake Mick Schumacher outside turn 9, treading the dirty spot. A very cruel way to end a GP to forget the Ferrari driver from Madrid.

Ahead, Hamilton overtook Pérez from the start to climb to third, but Red Bull’s faster run took over and the Mexican took the podium spot on lap 10.
