The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) described as “incredible” the fact that prevailed for the second year in a row in Il Lombardía, the fifth and final ‘monument’ of the season, this time beating the Spanish sprint Enric Mas (Movistar).
“It’s really incredible to come back to Il Laombardíaa and repeat the victory. I tried to attack in Civiglio, but Enric Mas was clearly on the same page as me. I’m still confident that I can beat him in the sprint,” said the two-time winner of Tour de France.
Pogacar, 24, will close the year with 15 victories, including Strade Bianche, 3 stages of the Tour, the Quebec Grand Prix and now Il Lombardia. After the World Cup, Enric Mas overtook him in the Giro de Emilia.
“At the Giro de Emilia I was still suffering from the fatigue from the trip back from Australia, but I’ve been feeling better and better since then. This win makes it an almost perfect 2022 season for me.”
