The Muleño gives a recital in Bareyo and takes revenge on Jesús Gómez from Burgos, who defeated him in the Zamora mile on Saturday

The Muleño athlete Mohamed Katir won yesterday in the XXVII Costa de Ajo popular race, a test held in the Cantabrian city of Bareyo. Katir ran the 6.2 kilometers of the race in 18:26, beating Jesús Gómez of Burgos with 18:37, who had won the Zamora mile on Saturday afternoon, in which the man from Muleño also participated, in third. In the Cantabrian stage, the third was Pablo Sánchez, with 18:38. There wasn’t as much level as in Zamora, but yesterday’s event in Bareyo was also very interesting.

The double world and European medalist had a brilliant race and dominated from start to finish. Despite the strong prevailing wind, Mo Katir set a hellish pace, allowing him to reach the finish line alone, greeting the hundreds of fans who were in attendance at that track’s ground zero. The athlete from Mula was the big favorite and did not disappoint.

Katir is already thinking about next year’s challenges, but he is taking advantage of this final stretch of the season to compete in races of some prestige in Spain and dive into the crowds in the places he visits. “In terms of medals, this year was better than the last and I hope that next year I will find myself at this level and try to improve my numbers,” the man from Muleño confessed a few days ago.

Solange Pereira, meanwhile, was the winner in the women’s category, with a time of 9:23, over a 3000m course. The Portuguese, nationalized Spanish and eight-time national champion of the road mile, dominated the race in Cantabrian countries yesterday. Pereira, based in Galicia, was also a favorite and didn’t fail either.
