Emergency services are looking for more victims after a private plane carrying five German passengers crashed off the coast of Costa Rica. So far, searches have found the bodies of an adult and a child. The plane disappeared Friday night on a flight from Mexico to Costa Rica.
On Sunday, searches were unable to find any more dead or remains of the crashed machine, the newspaper “La Nación” reported, citing the Ministry of Public Security. “Weather conditions made the search difficult today,” the statement said.
“There were five passengers and one pilot on the plane – six people in all,” said Fernando Naranjo, director of aviation. “Based on the dates of birth, there were also two children. The passengers came from Germany, the pilot from Switzerland, the Ministry of Public Security confirms to the DPA. The identity of the Germans is still unclear.
The plane disappeared Friday night on a flight from Mexico to Costa Rica. Communications were lost as the plane approached Limón airport on the Caribbean coast by sea, the security ministry said.
Cause of accident still unclear
According to media reports, the missing plane was a Piaggio P.180 Avanti business jet registered in Germany. The pilot never reported problems in contact with the air traffic controllers. Due to the small size of the aircraft, an on-board flight recorder was not required.
Nevertheless, the researchers hope that the analysis of the debris can provide information about the cause of the crash. About 28 kilometers from Limón airport, emergency services found parts of the fuselage, seats and several pieces of luggage.
