This Tuesday is the definitive recovery of Indoor Athletics Track of Catalonia in Sabadell with an investment of 550 thousand euros in a facility that was used as a field hospital during the pandemic.

The Sabadell City Council will contribute 200 thousand euros; The Barcelona Provincial Council, 150,000, while the Higher Sports Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya they each invest 100,000 euros until a total of 550,000 euros is completed. The representatives of the four administrations are this Tuesday in action.

The Sabadell Track was inaugurated in 2010 and hosts various Spanish championships as well as international events such as the International Meeting of Catalonia where Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba achieved the world record of 2,000 meters in 2017.

The president of the Higher Sports Council, José Manuel Franco, took the opportunity to point out that “Catalonia receives 16 million euros from European funds for sports” and added that it is “the autonomous community that receives the most money, always under purely objective criteria.” .

Franco, who will go to Sabadell for the first time, promises to go to the Indoor Court in some important championship”.

For the mayor of Sabadell, Marta Farrés, today is a “very important day for the recovery of a sports facility after the moments we experienced during the pandemic where it had to be dismantled”. In that sense, he pointed out that “we got it back better than before”.

The president of the Catalan Athletics Federation, Merce Rosich, announced that “Sabadell will host the International Meeting of Catalonia on January 28, 2023.

The General Secretary for Sports of the Generalitat, Anna Caula, emphasized that “Catalan athletics is very much alive and this week we broke the record of 15,000 licenses”.
