The Juventusbeing investigated by the Turin Public Prosecutor for possible falsification of accounts in 2020, orhid an agreement with the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo that he accepted it postpone the payment of 20 million euros of his salary to cooperate with the club’s economic situation, Italian media announced on Wednesday.
The Italian financial police was launched in November 2021 a research about the accounts of ‘Juve’ last year, when many clubs, including the black and white, agreed on a reduction of salary to help the economic situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic with some of its players, although Ronaldo’s name was not disclosed.
As a result of the investigation, Juventus’ agreement with its players has been discovered this is not a waiver of salary, but a deferment of payment three of the four agreed months (March to June), according to the same sources.
It would have been a saving for the club, by excluding the deferred salary as debt in its economic balance and paying the amounts to the players through private agreementssomething forbidden by the Italian soccer federation (FIGC).
The Prosecutor’s Office has now found -explain the media- a document that ‘Juve’ hid in his time and where the Turin club promised to pay 19.8 million euros to Ronaldo, an exact amount equal to his salary for four months.
This payment, like the other players involved, does not appear in the fiscal year of that year, they added.
The investigation by the Turin Prosecutor’s Office is still ongoing, so the ‘Vecchia Signora’ may be financially penalized -sporting sanctions are not expected- if that is officially confirmed their accounts are final by paying players’ salaries through private agreements.
In March of this year, the players involved such as Argentine Paul Dybala, now a Roma player, they were questioned by the Turin Prosecutor’s Office.
