French internationals reopen the debate on image rights

Date:

The soccer players of the French national team presented this Wednesday a revised draft agreement in relation to image rights, an issue that began to be discussed at the moment. Mbappe refused to participate in certain events. In a press release sent to the AFP agency, the internationals say they sent the president Noël Le Graêt a draft in which they propose a series of changes in the matter.

The current agreement, in force since 2010, allows the Federation to use the image of its footballers for all its advertising commitments. An important source of income that before the main characters has had almost nothing to say in recent years. This proposal requires that the duration of the contract between the FFF and the players be reduced to a maximum of two years, in addition to weighing the right of each to their own image.

Despite the fact that the French international asked to review the contract before the World Cup in Qatar, the proximity of the appointment means that the new regulations cannot come into force until January 2023. In March of the same year Mbappe refused to participate in a series of commercial commitments of choice, and now the claim is universal: the players have to choose the companies with which they are associated, either because of their personal beliefs or in the event of a conflict with between their sponsor and the choice.
