7892 new infections with the corona virus were registered in Austria on Tuesday. That is significantly more than the average of 7,117 new infections per day over the past seven days, according to figures released on Wednesday from the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES). A week ago, 13,048 new infections were reported. The seven-day incidence continues to fall, from 606.8 the previous day, was given this Wednesday as 551.8 per 100,000 population.
Two other fatalities have also been reported in connection with the Covid pandemic. Since the start of the pandemic, 20,943 people have died in Austria from or with Covid-19, that is 232 people per 100,000 inhabitants.
The number of active cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection decreased by 1,541 to 78,894 active infections in one day. There have been 5,416,866 confirmed cases in Austria since the start of the pandemic. 5,317,029 people have recovered since the outbreak of the epidemic and 9,431 have been reported as healthy in the past 24 hours.
2119 patients in hospitals
The number of hospitalized patients with Covid-19 rose by 11 from the previous day to 2119. Of them, 106 were cared for in intensive care units, one or more than the previous day.
On Tuesday, 16,974 vaccinations were carried out. Of these, 15,406 were booster doses (4th, 5th and each subsequent dose). 5,221,721 people and thus 57.8 percent of Austrians are validly vaccinated according to the recommendation of the National Vaccination Commission (NIG). A total of 1,083,286 people have received a booster vaccination to date.
